Glen Bridson smashed an unbeaten century to guide Findon Cricket Club through to the West Sussex group final of the National Village Cup on Sunday.

Bridson ended unbeaten on 119 as his side posted an imposing total of 260 for five from their 40 overs against Ansty.

Their opponents, who play a division higher in Sussex League Division 2, never got going in reply and were eventually bundled out for 123, handing Findon a 137-run victory in the West Sussex group semi-final encounter.

Having lost out by one-wicket in a Division 3 contest a day earlier, skipper Bradley Bridson admitted this was the perfect response.

He said: “It’s always nice to win in this competition.

“Everyone is aware what awaits the teams that reach the final – a place playing at Lord’s.

“We have quite a good history in this competition and want to do well again this year.

“I always love to see my brother getting runs and his unbeaten century put us in a great position.

“I was a little concerned when Curtis Howell could only bowl one over but Felix Jordan stepped up and took five wickets for us.”

After deciding to bat, Bradley Bridson fell for ten, while his opening partner Jamie Lewis went onto make 34.

After Bradley was out, his brother Glen went in and played superbly, hitting an unbeaten 119 from just 107 balls.

Despite Glen’s well-made ton, middle-order batsmen Felix Jordan (ten), Ben Jordan (14) and Alex Nielsen (eight) fell in quick succession to leave them 173 for five.

But a fine unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 87 between Bridson and Howell (38 not out) guided Findon to 260-5 from 40 overs.

Ansty never got going in reply and Felix Jordan led the way as he ended with five wickets to his name.

Opener Tommy Green top-scored with 31 for Findon’s opponents and that was never going to be enough to help them reach a tough target of 261. Leo Anderson hit 23 from number ten but that was too little too late as Ansty were all out for 123 in 29.3 overs.

Jordan ended with figures of 5-33, while 17-year-old Alexander Copeland took two wickets as did skipper Bradley Bridson to ensure Findon’s progress and set-up a home tie with Ifield.
