Cameron shows his quality after debut golden duck

After getting a golden duck on debut, Cuckfield’s overseas replacement Cameron Borgas soon showed his quality as he dominated their reply in Saturday’s draw at Roffey.

The Australian took on the home attack virtually singlehandedly, producing a chanceless 148 off 130 balls before holing out on the boundary as he tried to secure maximum batting points.

Borgas was drafted in after Keshav Maharaj was called back at short notice to his native South Africa. The all-rounder is preparing for a spin camp in India.

Borgas proved he could fill the vacancy by hitting 20 fours and four sixes as he made that 148 in a total of 214-9. It was all the more impressive after he came in at 8-2 in only the fourth over.

Earlier Cuckfield had bowled well to restrict the hosts to four an over in the first 50 before they cut loose to make a total of 275-4. Even then it looked only a par score after the late barrage from Matt Donegan (96no) and Mike Norris (59no).

Meanwhile, Preston Nomads were all but guranteeing they retained the title although they were made to work hard for a two-wicket win at Brighton & Hove.

Carl Simon was again their bowling hero with another five-wicket haul (5-48 in 20) as the hosts were bowled out for 173. Paul Hardwick top scored with 64.

But then only Kashif Ibrahim, following up his 3-45 with an unbeaten 44, looked likely to take his side to victory, which they finally achieved in the last over. Matt Wood made life difficult with 5-48.

Hastings still have a mathematical chance of overtaking Nomads after their 112-run home win against Three Bridges.

Leo Cammish hit 102 not out in a total of 260-7 before Bridges then succumbed for 148 to the spin of Josh Poysden (5-53) and Elliott Hooper (4-44).

Bottom club Worthing did themselves no favours as they crashed to a nine-wicket defeat to Horsham, who bowled them out for 150.

Chichester are also deep in trouble after their 112-run defeat to an East Grinstead team that rattled up 300-6 thanks partly to Dan Hopkins (72) and Ollie Graham (50).
