Clymping lost early wickets after losing the toss and being put into bat. However. Paddy Horne crashed 75 not out and Craig Edwards made 49 as Clymping posted 199 for eight from 49 overs.

Storrington, who could only field ten players for the game, lost wickets at regular intervals in their response but managed to hold on for a draw as they finished on 119 for seven from 45 overs.

Clymping skipper Paul Challen said: “I think the toss was crucial in this one, really.

“If I had won the toss, I would have put them into bat first. Looking at that now, we probably would have won if that was the case.

“They had only ten players available and, with our bowling attack, I was confident we would have restricted them to a low score.

“But it was not to be and sometimes that’s the way it goes in cricket.

“Paddy and Craig played well with the bat for us but, unfortunately, we could not quite get the win.”

Karl Pierce (21) and Andrew Dick (18) allowed Clymping to make steady progress early in their innings.

However, after the first wicket fell, Gareth Challen (four) and Alan Budd (five) were removed in quick succession.

Horne and Edwards then got together and helped Clymping reach 199 for eight in 49 overs.
