CLYMPING Cricket Club captain James Salisbury blasted his side’s batting display as they were skittled out for less than 80 runs by Felbridge & Sunnyside on Saturday.

Clymping are holding up the Division 1 table in the West Sussex Invitation League after three games, as a result of a 141-run defeat and picking up no points at the Chartham Ground.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the visitors failed to bowl out their hosts, who finished with 220-5 from their 49 overs.

In reply, Clymping were always struggling with only four of their order making double figures as they slumped to 79 all out in 30.2 overs.

Salisbury said: “While it is always disappointing to lose, to not to take any points from the game is a huge blow.

“Fielding and bowling wise we were okay and created quite a few chances but Felbridge batted well and wore down our bowlers in what were very humid conditions.

“In reply, we didn’t get that good start we needed and lost wickets at regular intervals, which meant we never got going.

“To be bowled out for under 100 is simply not good enough at this level and I was very disappointed.”

Having claimed the early wicket of Jack Williams for a duck as he was caught by Graham Merritt-Blann off Rory Mitchell’s bowling, Clymping made a good start.

Fellow opener Aaron Willsher only made 13, before he was caught by Alan Budd off Salisbury’s delivery.

But the rest of the Felbridge order made good contributions to push them on to a strong total.

Robin James hit 71, Graham Kettle made 36 and Rhodri Lewis scored 25, before John Connelly, with an unbeaten 30, and Sam Rintoul, with two not out, helped them to their total.

With the bat, Clymping’s wickets continually tumbled as Roshan Gamage did the damage in claiming 4-21 off nine overs.

Lewis took 2-7 and Rintoul 2-13 as Clymping collapsed. Only Chris Green (13), Karl Pierce (17), Mitchell (ten) and Merritt-Blann (14) made it into double figures.

Salisbury added: “It is early on in the season though, so onwards and upwards and we look forward to our next game in two-weeks’ time, where we will look to build on our win against Arundel last week.”
