Complete cricketing washout

The rain started on Friday night and continued throughout most of yesterday, coming down particularly heavily in the afternoon. Many matches were called-off before they were even scheduled to start.

Only one first team game and two second team matches were completed in the entire Sussex League, all of them in the west of the county. Just one East Sussex League fixture beat the weather across 13 divisions.

With the weather brightening up this morning, Hastings Priory will hope to contest their Sussex Premier League game in hand at home to the Sussex Development XI today. Play is due to start at 11.30am.

Fourth-placed Priory remain 53 points behind second-placed East Grinstead and 16 points shy of third-placed Horsham, although any sort of a win today would put them into the top three ahead of the final day trip to Horsham next weekend.

Bexhill stay third in Sussex Division Two and just a point behind second-placed Goring-by-Sea with the teams set to face each other in a winner-takes-all promotion shoot-out next weekend. If the match ends in a draw, though, fourth-placed Findon could nip ahead of the pair of them should they win their game.

Rye remain 36 points clear of second-placed Newick at the top of the East Sussex League with two matches to go. A local derby victory away to Iden next weekend could well clinch the title for a Rye side which was promoted from Division Two last summer.
