Cox appointed Bexhill coach

A Bexhill first team captain for several seasons, including the 1997 Sussex League championship-winning campaign, Cox is superbly qualified to work in the best interests of the club.

He is heavily involved with the Sussex county coaching scheme and is well respected throughout the Sussex League following a distinguised career as a player.

The Bexhill committee has worked tirelessly to secure Cox’s services for next season and feels confident that his appointment will fulfill the quest to take its cricketing performance to the next level.

Club chaiman Martin Phillimore said: “We could not have made a better appointment. Hamish Russell has done a phenomenal job as cricket manager, especially with our 1st XI.

“Having known Ian through cricket for 30-plus years, I know he is the ideal person to continue the development of our players at all levels and work with 1st XI captain Malcolm Johnson to get Bexhill back into Premier League cricket next year.”

Cox’s appointment is part of a management reshuffle at Bexhill, with Russell now appointed junior developement officer in place of the retiring Steve Phillimore.

Russell is keen to encourage the next wave of youngsters into their cricketing careers with Bexhill, and will be looking to his small army of assistants and junior team managers to help ensure the club remains a force in Sussex cricket.
