Cricket: Billingshurst beaten in league opener... West Chilt record two wins in two days

Local sides kicked off their Sussex Cricket League campaigns in earnest on Saturday.

Billingshust CC began their Division 2 campaign with a chastening nine-wicket loss at St James’s Montefiore CC.

Michael Murray (4-30) put Hurst to the sword as the visitors were bowled out for 129 in 32.5 overs.

An 86-run opening wicket partnership from skipper Toby Pullan (32) and Hector Loughton (74*) got St James’s off to a good start in the reply.

Pullan was bowled by Isaac Thorneley (1-23) but Ollie Bradley (12*) and Loughton powered St James’s to 131-1 in 21.2 overs to take victory.

Hurst welcome Burgess Hill CC to Jubilee Fields this Saturday.

Chris Webb was the star for Roffey CC 2nd XI (229-5) as they beat Chichester Priory Park CC (228-8) by five wickets in their first-ever Division 2 game.

Webb hit a run-a-ball 141* to guide the Boars home. Roffey 2nd XI host Mayfield CC on Saturday.

West Chiltington & Thakeham CC opened their league campaign with a 77-run win at Division 3 West new boys and neighbours Slinfold CC.

Chilt were put in by Fold and were all out for 167 in 34.2 overs. Matt Machan top-scored with 50 off 36 balls while the Rilwan Mohamed finished with superb bowling figures of 5-34.

Reuben Taylor (4-11) did the damage in the reply as Fold were bowled out for 90 in 25.5 overs.

Sunday saw Chilt record a 13-run victory over Findon CC in the second round of the Voneus Village Cup.

They will travel to Hampshire outfit Liphook & Ripsley CC in round three on Sunday, May 23.

Chilt host Pagham CC this Saturday while Slinfold visit Findon.

Elsewhere in Division 3 West, Henfield CC fell to a seven-wicket loss at home to Ansty CC.

The hosts were asked to bat and were all out for 173 in 37 overs. Skipper Rob Slaughter (54) starred for Henfield while James Parker (4-30) did well with the ball.

The reply saw Ansty reach the target in 29.2 overs as they hit 175-3. Sam Palser (64*) powered the home side to victory.

Henfield travel to Broadwater CC this Saturday.

Horsham Trinity CC fell to a 80-run home defeat against Felbridge & Sunnyside CC in their first game in Division 4 West since promotion.

Trinity put Felbridge into bat and were left to rue this decision as Gavin Botha blasted 89* to take the visitors to 217-7 off 45 overs. Ben Moir (4-49) performed admirably with the ball for Trinity.

The reply saw Jack Gold hit 52 but Horsham Trinity were bowled out for 137 in 37.3 overs.

Trinity travel to Crawley CC on Saturday.

In Division 5 West, Jarod Van Blerk’s 52* shot Barns Green CC (112-4) to a six-wicket win over Billingshurst CC 2nd XI (111 all out).

Nick Baker hit 103 for Southwater CC (247-3) in their eight-wicket defeat at Middleton CC 2nd XI (249-2).

Wisborough Green CC (132 all out) suffered a thumping 108-run loss at West Wittering CC (240-3) while Horsham CC 2nd XI (104 all out) fell to a narrow one-wicket defeat at Worthing CC 2nd XI.
