Nick Patterson did his usual stirling job for Cuckfield but his 5-73 could not stop hosts Worthing setting a big target of 247-9. Zimbabwean Malcolm Lake made 67 and there was 49 from Michael Gould.

Cuckfield were then bowled out for 160 despite some good resistance from Tom Cummins (51) and the in-form James Thorpe (47). It was off spinner Benn Challen who did the damage with 6-28.

Nomads made short work of Hastings, bowling out the opposition for less than three figures for the third week running. Kashif Ibrahim took 5-9 and Patrick Spencer 4-34 as the hosts were humbled for 79 in 42 overs.

Nomads then took just 14 overs to seal an eight-wicket win as Joe Gatting made 30 not out.

Horsham went second as they recovered well at Brighton & Hove thanks in no small measure to No 10 Sam Bell, who made 60 not out in their total of 214-9.

Michael Rippon then followed up his 3-7 with 91 but could not save Brighton being dismissed for 143 by Kam Leverock (5-34) and Michael Munday (4-41).

The game at Roffey produced a keenly fought affair that the hosts won by 23 runs against Chichester. An unbroken last wicket stand proved the key to Roffey’s win.

East Grinstead were left frustrated when several umpire inspections took place before their game at home to Three Bridges was called off because of a wet square.

In Division 2 St James’s notched their third win after bowling out hosts Glynde for 97. George Taylor did much of the damage with 4-12 before Adam Davies made 54 not out to complete a six-wicket win.

Eastbourne moved back to the top when they toppled pre-match leaders Goring by 116 runs at the Saffrons.
