The hosts, who have now lost all eight of their matches this season, were bowled out for 116 in 33.2 overs after losing the toss and EP then reached their target in just 17.4 overs.

Southwick opening batsmen Craig Dawson and Russell Martin shared a 29-run opening stand, before Dan Williams dismissed Martin (11), Chay Chapman (nought) and Tim Shutt (nought) in the same over. Shutt was caught by Tom Chamberlain at leg slip just after EP skipper Andy Reeves had moved him to that position.

Only Steve Martin, with 44, then provided any real resistance for Southwick, although Toby Reed did hit 16 as the home side were dismissed for 116.

Williams finished with 5-20 from 11.2 overs as he moved on to 15 wickets for the season, while Jack Sunderland grabbed 4-17 off eight overs and now has 19 wickets this year.

EP opening batsmen Gary Weedon and Tim Miles had a 97-run opening stand to take their side to the brink of victory, before Miles was out for 45, after hitting eight fours and one six from 47 balls. Weedon then guided EP to victory as he finished unbeaten on 51, from 59 deliveries, also with eight fours and one six.

EP skipper Andy Reeves said: “It was a relatively routine win. They were fairly short of players, so we wanted to win the toss and field first as we didn’t want to put a big score on the board and then see them block out for two-and-a-half hours.

“Dan bowled his usual tight line to pick up five wickets and Jack took four fairly decent wickets as well.

“We did drop some catches but it was all relatively routine when we batted, although Tim was a bit annoyed to get out .

“We’re halfway through the season now and are halfway up the table, which is a fairly accurate reflection on how we have played so far this season. Hopefully, we can improve in the second half and push up the table.”
