Chris Morris, who was Priory’s overseas player in 2008, lined-up in the Champions Trophy semi-final at The Oval which England comfortably won by seven wickets.

Although on the losing side, Morris had the consolation of dismissing England skipper Alastair Cook. The opening bowler recorded figures of 1-38 from his eight overs, one of which was a maiden.

Morris was earlier dismissed for three batting at number nine as South Africa slumped to 80-8 before rallying to 175 all out courtesy of a ninth wicket partnership of 95. England knocked off the runs in 37.3 overs with Jonathan Trott 82 not out.

It was Morris’s third one day international appearance having previously featured in South Africa’s group games against West Indies and Pakistan. The 26-year-old also played in two Twenty20 internationals during the winter.

Morris, a right-arm fast medium bowler, took 31 wickets for Priory at an average of 24.23 with a best of 5-8 in the thrashing of Brighton & Hove. He also scored 402 runs with the bat at an average of 40.2, including a superb 113 against Stirlands.

He isn’t the first Priory player to represent South Africa because Morne van Wyk played in 13 one day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals between 2003 and 2011. Michael Yardy, another one-time Priory man, played in 28 one day internationals and 14 Twenty20 internationals for England.
