Heavy Park defeat sends Boro bottom of Division Two

Pulborough’s winless start to the season continued with a heavy defeat at home to Crowhurst Park which saw them slide to the bottom of Division Two.

Skipper Lee Callagan admitted they were outplayed, as knocks of 81 from Dale Payne and a late 76 from Clive Tong “batted us out of the game” as the visitors declared on 235-5.

In reply only brief resistance came from James Smillie, with 35 and Cham Mudalige, with an unbeaten 26 as Boro were bowled out for 104 to give Park a win by 131 runs.

Callagan said: “In our other games we’ve competed and we’ve played relativity OK but on Saturday there were no excuses, we were just outplayed.”

Jono Bennett and James Smillie got a couple of breakthroughs in a decent start with the ball. But Payne hung around for 81 off 87 balls, and Tong’s 76 was even quicker, coming off 70 ball and including three big sixes.

In reply Boro lost three quick wickets and it was an uphill task from there as they were knocked off inside 26 overs as the hosts took only four points.

With Glynde and Middleton drawing it knocked Callagan’s side to the foot of the table. “It leaves us a bit adrift, we have to try and pick ourselves back up quickly to get our first win,” the skipper added.
