Henfield take early bragging rights over Wisborough Green

The game got underway on time despite forecasts of heavy rain, and visiting Henfield won the toss and elected to bat, posting 153 all out.

In a rain-interupted reply Wisborough Green were well placed on 119/5 but collapsed to 130 all out as Henfield won by 23 runs.

Batting first no one in the Henfield ranks managed to post a big score. Jack Parsons was the pick with a breezy 38 from 39 balls before Byron Napper took a sharp catch in the gully to dismiss him off the bowling of Jonny Farmer (3-37). Scott Pedersen made 36 and Will Culver 32, as Green’s seam bowler Ben Thatcher did most of the damage, taking 6-62.

In reply Green’s new Australian overseas wicketkeeper/batsman struck 43 while his team-mates struggled, Jack Parsons doing the damage with the ball, taking 4-27.

Green captain James Self said: “We bowled really well, Ben Thatcher put them under pressure, we took regular wickets and we thought 150 was a very gettable target.

“We were looking good at 119-5, but then collapsed, to lose five wickets for only 11 runs was a real shame. Credit to Henfield, they stuck at it.”
