Hunt is on for cricket umpires in Sussex

The Sussex Association of Cricket Officials (SACO) needs more qualified umpires. With more and more games now being officiated by fully independent umpires in the Sussex leagues, they need to swell the ranks of qualified umpires substantially over the next few years.

If you enjoy cricket and would like to be more involved in the game how about taking the first step on the umpires’ pathway? You can do this by enrolling on one of the ECBACO umpires level-one courses being held throughout Sussex this winter.

This is the first step on a series of courses that could lead to officiating in the Sussex Premier League or even at minor counties matches.

This is not open only to players who have retired from the game, though, of course, they are welcomed with open arms.

Bosses are keen to see more ladies and juniors joining the ranks of qualified umpires. The earlier you start, the further along the pathway you are likely to get.

Courses are being held in Horsham (November); Arundel (January/February); Crowhurst (February); and Hove (March/April).

The association also needs more people to become qualified scorers.
