Iden lose ground, Battle hopes over

Iden lost ground in the race for second place in the East Sussex Cricket League.

The village club is down to fourth, albeit only four points off second, in Division One following a 78-run defeat away to new third-placed side Heathfield Park on Saturday.

David White took 5-62 and Mark Kitching 3-48 as Park made 197-9 batting first. Iden were all out for 119 in reply with only Michael White (43), Tom Rawstorne (22) and Phil Shanks (13) in double figures.

Battle’s hopes of promotion from Division Two are over despite a 93-run victory at home to Pevensey. Stuart Reed hit 73 and Craig Davies 30 not out in Battle’s 195-9 before Mike Gedye claimed four wickets and Elliot Scrivener three to dismiss Pevensey for 102.

Rye can do no better than fourth in the same division after losing by 67 runs at home to Buxted Park. Gary Willis and Martin Blincow bagged three wickets apiece as Park totalled 163 batting first, but Rye could muster only 96 in reply with Blincow hitting 23.

Robertsbridge have work to do on the final weekend to make sure of avoiding the drop in light of a nine-wicket drubbing against leaders St Peters. Bridge reached 146-8 batting first thanks largely to 47 from David Collins and St Peters knocked the runs off in 21.3 overs.

In Division Four, Pett lost by six wickets away to Lewes St Michaels and Little Common Ramblers’ match at home to Newick seconds was abandoned.
