Iden win to clinch second

Iden secured the runners-up spot in the East Sussex Cricket League courtesy of a final day victory.

The village club triumphed by three wickets at home to Newick, consigning their opponents to relegation from Division One in the process.

Mark Kitching returned the excellent figures of 7-53 as Newick were all out for 173 batting first. Paul Barnett then hit an unbeaten 52 and Tom Rawstorne made 45 as Iden got home at 176-7.

Rye finished fourth in Division Two after winning a low scoring game at home to third-placed Battle by four wickets, giving them a welcome boost ahead of next weekend’s InterSport of Lewes Trophy semi-final against Ringmer.

Battle were all out for 104 having won the toss, Craig Davies top-scoring with 38 and three bowlers taking two wickets each. Jake Bryant (42 not out) and Mark Cook (25) steered Rye home at 107-6.

Robertsbridge remain in Division Two despite losing by 15 runs away to Crowborough. Alex Collins bagged 4-37 as the hosts were all out for 172 and Richard Hawthorne’s 58 couldn’t prevent Bridge being dismissed for 157 in reply.

Pett were relegated from Division Four on the back of a three-wicket defeat at home to Little Common Ramblers. Full reports on all these matches and all the tables will appear in Friday’s Observers.
