Invitation League round up: Chilt complete eight wicket win at Arundel

After three rounds, only one team - East Preston - is yet to record a victory after four sides got off the mark last Saturday.

Felbridge thumped Clymping at home after bowling them out for under 100 at their Chartham Ground, while Crawley’s Ram went to East Preston and won by five wickets after bowling their hosts out cheaply.

St Andrews also won away on the coast at Littlehampton by three wickets, whilst West Chilt completed an eight wicket victory away at Arundel.

Chilt restricted Arundel to 200-5 off their full allocation of overs. Home captain Joe Bain made 94 opening.

In reply, the visitors lost both openers cheaply before an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 199 runs saw them home in the penultimate over.

New signing Tim Jarvis made an unbeaten 89 and James Howgate his first ton for the club, reaching 107 not out at the close.

The enigmatic Howgate commented afterwards: “We’re always confident with our batting line up of overcoming most totals although the weather beat us last week.

“I’m not one for statistics but I gather that was my first ton at West Chilt and in my 50th game. I’ve been here since 2010 and have felt at home from day one.”

In Division Two, Broadbridge Heath are top despite only playing two games. They walloped Three Bridges III in Maidenbower, bowling their hosts out for just 61 to win by 140 runs. Sam MacDonald and Fred Bridges took four wickets each.

The other three games ended in draws, including Storrington’s game at Crawley Eagles III. Dan Pickard and Mike Duddy took four wickets each as Eagles were dismissed for 234.

Storrington were 206-7 when the game ended - Duddy again and keeper Chris Hurst making half centuries.

Division Three is led by Aldwick after they hammered Worthing III at home. Wins also for Eastergate, Himani and Clayton.

In Division Four, West Wittering I are miles ahead already after three maximums.

Below them, it is extremely tight after Horsham III won their first game and the other two games ended in draws.

Partridge Green I, Southwater II and West Chilt II are still looking for their first wins.
