Crawley 254-7

Portslade 214-10

Captain Paul Clifford took 6-47 to help bring newly-promoted Crawley a 40-run victory against Portslade.

Batting first, Kunal Kapoor to the crease and together with opener Lewis Tomkins, set about building the foundations for a competitive total.

Kapoor was then joined by Razwan Hussain, and together they put on 161 for the third wicket, batting sensibly, rotating the strike and putting away the loose deliveries. Hussain fell for a well-constructed 58 before Kapoor advanced to a majestic century.

Kapoor eventually fell for 128, but after some late hitting from Matt Leese and Clifford, Crawley were able to declare after 50 overs having posted 254/7.

Portslade began their reply brightly, but Sudess Ali, making his first-team debut, picked up two crucial wickets, the first finding the edge and the second superbly caught by Med Haynes at backward point, leaving Portslade on 44/2.

Off-spinner Clifford claimed his sixth wicket and Portslade’s last with four balls to spare.
