Littlehampton still top Group A of the competition after winning their opening two games and victory at home to Chichester in their final match on July 14 will secure a place in the last eight.

Littlehampton restricted Eastergate to just 86-9 from their 20 overs on Saturday but were then bowled out for just 82 as league captain Dan Rive said his side did not apply themselves with the bat.

He said: “We just didn’t concentrate and didn’t apply ourselves as none of the batsmen got their heads down.

“We had a slightly changed team to normal but it was pretty much our first team and we should have won the game.

“Credit to Eastergate as they bowled straight and we kept missing the ball.

“But if we beat Chichester in our final game, we’re still through to the quarter-finals.”

Rive felt a score of around 130 to 140 would have been par on the wicket, so Littlehampton were delighted to keep Eastergate to 86-9 as Tom Lee bowled two maidens and Jordan Farrell one. They both finished with 2-10 from their four overs and Amit Midha took 2-5 from two overs as Littlehampton’s bowlers returned some excellent figures.

Only two Eastergate batsmen got into double figures as Jamie Murphy top-scored with 22 and Jack Bateman hit 19.

Littlehampton’s reply saw five batsmen get into double figures as Lee top-scored with 15.

Bateman claimed 4-7 from his four overs, which included a maiden, and Josh Cole took 2-5 from eight balls and Murphy grabbed 2-26 from four overs as Littlehampton were all out for 82.
