Leaders Park tackle Hill

The Sussex Cricket Division Three (East) leaders face opponents who sit just six points off the foot of the table.

“Confidence is quite high at the moment,” said Park skipper Paul Lindfield following recent wins over Crawley and Ansty. “We’re playing well as a team and that’s what it’s all about. Our season will be based on how we play as a team.”

Park will have to take on Burgess Hill without medium pace bowler Paul Brookes (pictured), who last weekend returned figures of 6-36 in the defeat of Ansty. “It’s a big loss but it’s only for one week,” Lindfield went on.

Sidley, meanwhile, are just looking to get some enjoyment back into their cricket after enduring a tough start to life back in Sussex Division Two.

The only team in the division still searching for its first win, Sidley are 38 points adrift of second-bottom Pulborough and 55 behind a St James’s Montefiore side which occupies the final safe spot of third-bottom.

The two teams immediately above them also happen to be Sidley’s next two opponents with St James’s making the trip to Gullivers tomorrow (Saturday) and Pulborough doing likewise next weekend.

Sidley captain John Haffenden said: “With how everything’s been with the selection problems, it will be nice just to get 11 players out on the pitch with no issues for one week, turn up and enjoy some cricket.”

Haffenden and Paul Thompson hope to play despite struggling with back injuries, but Scott Woodroffe is in South Africa attending the wedding of popular former Sidley player Bradley Holt. Play is due to start at 1pm.
