Put into bat in overcast conditions Lindfield’s batting looked all at sea as poor shot selection accounted for the opening

batsmen and were soon in major trouble at 12 for 4.

Wickets continued to fall and it looked like Lindfield were about to throw away the chance of gaining promotion.

However, later order batsmen Adam Wright 15, Gareth Court 14 and a vital 31nt by Scott Pedley gave Lindfield an outside chance of victory but the Lindfield score of 91 all out looked well short against a confident Ansty team.

Skipper Gareth Court made an inspired decision to open up with off spinner Henry Fowler, it was his bowling that started to turn the game in Lindfield’s favour as he returned the magnificent bowling figures of 6 for 15 in 17 overs .

Together with fast bowler Scott Pedley 2 for 12 in 6 overs Lindfield started to control the game as Ansty crawled to 21 for 6.

After tea Lindfield continued to dominate the match and together with some excellent fielding it was not long before Will Longley took the final wicket curtsey of a leg side catch by keeper Matt O’Brien to win in the 37 over as Ansty were all out for 51.

Next season Lindfield will be playing the likes of Horsham, Preston Nomads, Brighton & Hove and Eastbourne which will be a formidable task, but for now the Lindfield team rightly celebrated a great team effort and brilliant season. Special mention to Lindfield skippers Nick Hopkins an Gareth Court who deserve great credit.
