Asked to bat by the visitors, the hosts relied on Charlie Weir (31) Shane Peach (22) and Harry Moorat (34) to rebuild the innings after the openers fell cheaply.

At 87 for 3, Lindfield were well placed to accelerate the pace but Freddie Longley (3 for 9) and Henry Cope (2 for 24) ensured that the home side struggled to maintain any advantage. A flurry of wickets saw them struggle to 133 all out in just 35 overs.

The St. James inning set a similar tone with not one batsman taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Jordan Shaw (35) Freddie Longley (32) anchored the chase, but the Lindfield bowlers couldn't prise the wickets at the same rate as the visiting side and they crossed the line with 14 overs to spare, seven wickets down.

Streat & Westmeston CC 1st XI v Lindfield CC 2nd XI

Lindfield second string finished an encouraging August Cup campaign with a win at Streat but it wasn't quite enough to see them through to the knockout stages. Bowling first, the visitors' bowlers dominated proceedings with everyone chipping in despite a decent start by the hosts. Matthew Porter hit a good half century opening the innings, but from 44 for 1, they collapsed to 124 all out, thanks in the main to Luke Sowton (3 for 27) and Gareth Court (3 for 10).

Needing quick runs to top the group on run rate, Lindfield set about with James Colvin (61) and Adam Wright (31) setting the tone. Danny Bulgin made himself useful in the middle order with 17 that steadied the ship among the fall of a few wickets, but it was the familiar sight of Asha Hinley and Luke Sowton at the wicket that saw Lindfield over the line with 16 overs to spare and three wickets in hand. Unfortunately, despite finishing on the same points Cuckfield 3s topped the group with a superior run rate.

Lindfield's 4th XI topped the group and went through to the August Cup knockout stages with an exciting win against Scaynes Hill. The hosts made 173 for 6 thanks in the main to 93 from ex-Lindfield player Dan Baker, despite the tremendous figures of 8 overs 1 wicket for 6 by Peter Booth.

In response, Lindfield made steady progress thanks to Sean Sage (39) David Lea (23) and Leon Kaye (17). However, an unbeaten 40 from in form Toby Colvin made all the difference in increasing the run rate, with the innings finished off in style by Johnny Smith hitting a six to ensure the visitors finished top of the group. Edwards was the pick of the home side bowlers with 3 for 39 as Lindfield made 177 for 6 with 2.5 overs to spare.

The 4s will play the first round of the knockout stages next week.
