Littlehampton give leaders Bognor a scare

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club gave table-topping Bognor Regis a huge scare on Saturday, before the leaders claimed a 43-run win.

Bottom-of-the-table Littlehampton bowled out Bognor for just 109 in the Sussex League Division 3 West match – with Littlehampton captain Dan Rive thinking 200-plus was a par score.

However, his side then crumbled in their reply and were all out for just 66 as they fell to their eighth defeat from nine league games.

Rive said: “We gave them a big scare and we did 50 per cent of the game very well. We played it hard and did well to bowl the leaders out for 109.

“But we just couldn’t get the one partnership, which would have won us the game, going in our reply.

“It was a very disappointing and frustrating way to lose as we just seemed to go out to bat without any confidence.”

Bognor’s Sam Taylor, with 20, was the top-scorer in the match but it was his wicket that led to a collapse in his side’s innings.

He was fifth man out with the score on 93 and Bognor then collapsed to 109 all out as Ryan Budd took 4-4 from 5.2 overs, with all four runs wides from his first over. Rive also took four wickets, at a cost of 26 runs from 16 overs.

Littlehampton’s reply then never got going as only Chris Heberlein, with 15, reached double figures.

Taylor led the way for Bognor with 5-28 from 15.1 overs and Jim Lee took 3-29 off 12 overs as Littlehampton were all out for 66 in 30.1 overs.

Littlehampton host third-from-bottom Arundel on Saturday.
