But Askew is looking forward to the remaining games. He said: “We always have good games against Broadwater so looking forward to Saturdays game. The last few times we have played them at home, games have gone to the last over.

“We have two games left and for us nothing will change. We will turn up and continue to enjoy ourselves which it’s all about after the summer we have had.”

Littlehampton won by nine runs in the rain-affected visit to Steyning. Chris Heberlein and Ally James’ half-centuries helped them to 219-7 before Steyning fell nine runs short aiming for 83 in a rain-reduced chase.

Askew said: “It was nice to win although we didn't know we had won until we got back to Littlehampton as we thought it was abandoned not realising it was 10 overs needed for the 2nd innings and not 20 like normal league games.

“Hebsy and Ally both batted really well in difficult conditions with rain falling and it being pretty gloomy.

“Personally I thought the game should have ended a lot earlier. It rained consistently for a few hours but umpires were keen to try and play through.”
