The 29 year-old all-rounder has been at the heart of Sussex Cricket for the past decade, having joined the County from Leicestershire at the beginning of the 2004 season and made his Championship debut during the same campaign.

He was part of the Sussex squad that won the ‘double’ in 2006, winning both the County Championship and the 50-over Trophy, before helping Sussex retain the four-day crown in 2007, after he was awarded his County Cap during the same season.

Wright also made his England One-Day International debut in 2007, hitting a half-century against India at The Oval and also made his International T20 bow in the same year. He has since gone on to play over 50 internationals in both formats for his country, and played a starring role in England’s World Twenty20 victory in 2010.

He has made his name around the world as a one-day specialist, playing in domestic T20 tournaments in Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa and the Indian Premier League. He struck a 44-ball hundred for Melbourne Stars in the inaugural Big Bash, but his star T20 performance came for Sussex this July when he hit a breathtaking 153 not out from only 66 balls against Essex, breaking the domestic record.

Wright said, “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a huge honour and when I joined Sussex all those years ago, if I’d have been told I’d be sat here now getting a benefit at the age of 29, I wouldn’t have believed it.

“You know that when the club award it to you that you’ve served the club well. Ever since I was capped in 2007 I’ve been delighted to do well for this club. I’ve got some great memories, I’ve won some amazing trophies with some very special players.”

“He is a very popular player with our members as well as the wider cricketing public and we are delighted to award him a benefit for 2015.”
