Man of the match Ralph, 11, takes incredible figures for senior team

The 11-year-old took the astonishing figures of 7-8 from 4.1 overs after hitting 40 runs from 52 balls in the first innings against Hailsham 3rd XI.

Figgins opened the batting in rainy conditions and helped Hailsham reach 128 all out.

A quick break for socially distanced packed lunches and the second innings started and noone was prepared for what was to come when Ralph, who bowls pace, went through the Hailsham batting line up. They were bowled out for just 53.

Ralph told us: "I tried not to put too much pressure on myself in wet conditions but wanted a big score so waited for the balls that could be hit and defended or left the good balls.

"With the bowling I just concentrated on hitting the wicket as I knew it was a hard wicket to score runs on and it was great to get five direct hits from the seven wickets.

"I’ve trained hard all winter so it’s great Hailsham cricket club are getting us games now we can play again. I want to play professional cricket one day so will just keep working hard to improve.”

Dad John said: “Ralph works incredibly hard on his game, the club are great developing the children In a friendly and encouraging environment.

"He’s also been training all winter at BACA and the MCC hub in Brighton with cricket professional Georgia Adams and Alexia Walker. He will keep working hard to improve and has already planned a net session with his friends this afternoon!”

Ralph took the man of the match, and club player of the week awards.
