Napper wants Wisborough Green to get back to basics

James Sadler hit 70 in his first game of the season as Green made 187-6.

In reply Pagham’s overseas player Jamal Fernandez was the main difference with a rapid 72 as the early Division 3 (West) pacesetters made it four wins from four.

Napper said: “We’ve been working really hard and there’s not been any games where things have been drastically wrong, we just need to get the basics right.”

Put into bat, Sadler and Tim Dodd (28) made 67 for the first wicket. Alex Edwards came in to partner Sadler well with 36, and when he went Napper hit a similarly fluent 30, although the skipper felt their 187 was perhaps 20 runs short.

In reply a Martin Hopkins run out had Pagham 1-1, but then a century stand between Fernandez and Joe Metz (31) had the hosts well placed.

Wickets did start to fall but that of Fernandez came just too late as Pagham squeaked home to a two-wicket win.

“They crumbled when we got their overseas out but his 70 from around 40 balls was probably the difference and we dropped a couple of catches,” Napper added.
