O’Dowd inspires Lindfield win with master class batting display

A battting master class innings of 143 by Max O’Dowd containing 14 x 4s and 8 x 6s from 126 balls was the highlight of Lindfield first league win of the season as they moved into 5th position in the League.

Crowhurst Park won the toss and invited Lindfield to bat. Despite an early set back from losing veteran opening batsman Kevin Chamberlain with the score on 10, Crowhurst Park were soon regretting their decision in bowling first as Lindfield scored at a healthy rate with O’Dowd and Simon Shivnarain 50 batting superbly to post a stand of 150.

The stand laid the foundations for the later batsmen to expressive themselves with all rounder Shane Yellverton scoring a mature 29 to enable the home side to declare at 248 for 5 from 47.4 overs.

Crowhurst Park’s innings started disastrously losing two early wickets as they struggled to come to terms with the opening spell of brothers Matthew and Shane Wilson-Yelverton. Wickets continued to fall throughout as Hayden James destroyed the middle order with a delightful spell of medium pace swing bowling taking 5 for 26 from his 12 overs.

Despite a late flurry of runs from the lower order, Crowhurst Park were all out for 124 all out in 33.2 overs as Lindfield won by 124 runs to secured a valuable 30 points.

Lindfield entertain Findon this Saturday on the Common which promises to be another hard fought contest.

Steyning 2nd 175 all out v Lindfield 2nd 85 all out

Steyning won by 90 runs

After last weeks encouraging start to the season with a win against Eastbourne, Lindfield were brought to back to earth with a disappointing defeat against Steyning.

Despite the unavailability of 8 players, Lindfield bowled and fielded with great enthusiasm with Henry Fowler 6 for 56 in a marathon spell from 26 overs and Scott Pedley 3 for 62 bowling with guile and energy as they held Steyning in check to dismiss the hosts for 175 to gain maximum bowling points.

Unfortunately, the innings started poorly as Lindfield lost two early wickets and never recovered as wickets continued to fall not helped by two needless run outs.

Despite the best efforts from skipper Adrian Whear 37not out, Lindfield were disappointingly bowled out for 85.

The Second XI will be hoping to return to winning ways as they travel to the picturesque ground at Findon this Saturday.

Lindfield 3s suffered their first defeat of the season against a strong Hurstpierpoint side but remain 4th in the league.

Lindfield batted first and scored a respectable total of 159 all out with Rob Mintor 49, Peter Vinall 25, Stewart Hornby 21 and skipper Lloyd Fielder 23 all making useful contributions.

Lindfield’s shortage in bowling was soon highlighted as Hurstpierpoint raced to the their target in 20 overs to win by 9 wickets with young Charlie Weir taking the only wicket. Despite the defeat the young side performed with credit and showed great determination.

Lindfield 3rd XI travel to Roffey 3rd XI this week and will be determined to return to winning ways.

Lindfield 4th XI suffered greatest from a number of the Clubs senior players not being available this week.

Despite a heavy defeat the team have performed well this season and will be looking to bounce back against local rivals Cuckfield 4th XI on Saturday.

Skipper John Sage has been encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment from his young team and will be hoping they learn from playing senior games.
