Ollie Robinson's message to England: I'm ready for my Test chance

Robinson has been in great red-ball form for Sussex since 2018 and has been one of the country's leading wicket-takers in that time, earning him call-ups to England squads and England Lions matches. But so far a full international debut has not come his way.

But after taking 13 wickets - including nine for 78 in the second innings against a dogged Glamorgan side who would not lie down but were eventually beaten - Robinson told our reporter Peter Miller he was delighted with the victory.

"Very pleased. Just pleased for the lads as well really. It is a great win. We have had a really good winter training and to get that win over four days is really satisfactory," he said.

Talking about his international hopes he said: "I have always said if I can just keep performing for Sussex hopefully the selectors can see that and I will get my chance."

Does that include Test cricket? "I feel like that. I have felt like that for probably a year now. I’ve been with England for 18 months here and there, sort of in and out. I feel like I am ready for Test cricket and I have just got to wait for my chance I suppose but I am definitely ready."

Robinson praised Glamorgan's star batsman Kiran Carlson, who scored a ton in each innings, and said: "Kiran Carlson batted very well, 250 in the game and Taylor applied himself yesterday and this morning.

"We knew when we saw the pitch it was going to go all four days, it is drier at the moment than normally in April. We spoke before the game about making sure we are there every day for four days and we knew if we did that we would come out on top.

Reflecting on taking 13 wickets on a flat pitch, Robinson added: "I have been a little bit stamped as an English conditions bowler - so for me personally I have worked really hard on when it is flatter still taking wickets and using different skills to get those wickets, so hopefully I am not pigeon holed as an English conditions type bowler and I can do it all over the world."
