The team, pictured above, lost just twice in 18 league matches, and captain Ben Williams said they are ‘looking forward’ to playing Division Two cricket again after a three-year absence.

He said: “To be honest it is where we feel the club should be playing. We think we deserve to be in the league above and this year we have not only had the ability but the attitude as well.

“For the last three years we have been trying to get promoted and now it has happened we are over the moon.

“The team has got a really good atmosphere and is a sustainable club.”

The promotion party on Saturday was quietened somewhat as Billingshurst were well beaten by rivals Stirlands, but Williams said players are already focused on next year.

The skipper added: “Next year we will hopefully learn from the mistakes made when we were there three or four years ago, but we are looking forward to it.

“I think we will finish better than expected - hopefuly in mid-table and build from there.

“It is because everybody has been on the same path. Everybody knew what we were trying to do.

“Luckily for me people went along with me as captain and followed the lead from what I tried to set out.”
