Park pegged back by title rivals

CROWHURST Park have seen their lead cut after losing to main rivals Lewes Priory in the battle for the Sussex Cricket Division Three (East) title.

The eight-wicket reverse means three clubs - the other being Ansty - are now within nine points of each other going into the final two weeks of the season.

The top two tussle was switched due to outfield problems at Lewes, but Park failed to take advantage and were bowled out for 178 after winning the toss.

Several batsmen including Bradley Payne (35), Martin Menezes (35) and Nick Taylor (32) got starts but no one went on to make a big score as Adam Scott (5-58) and Imran Khan (4-22) did the damage with the ball.

Lewes were reduced to 44-2 in reply but that was as good as it got for Park as Andrew Hartridge (72 not out) and Josh Harrison (68 not out) saw them to 179-2 inside 29 overs.

Ansty are the other team still in the title hunt after they saw off bottom-of-the-table Seaford by 99 runs. Crawley, meanwhile, look to have blown their chances after losing at home to Keymer & Hassocks.

Division Three standings (all played 16): Crowhurst Park 308pts, Lewes Priory 301, Ansty 299, Crawley 276, Keymer & Hassocks 257, Hellingly 243, Burgess Hill 239, Henfield 214, Lindfield 208, Seaford 192.
