Haywards Heath won the toss and chose to bat on a worn but hard looking wicket . However they were soon in trouble when , in the fourth over Alex Crowther drove Peter Billinghay straight to mid-on where Dan Yates gratefully accepted the catch .

There was then something of a procession as Hannah Phelps , who had been batting carefully , lofted an off- drive to Tom Penfold off George Willett . Driving Billinghay proved to be a hazardous pursuit as Tashaffi Shams was the next to fall , caught by Nathan Cooper . Skipper Callum Smith got the ball of the day as he was bowled by Billinghay . Jack Simpson took over from Willett and took two wickets in his first over , with Ben Francis adjudged LBW and Dan Strange edging to Trowbridge at slip. Simpson then bowled Joel Newsome and James Austin hit straight to a grateful Karl Boffey at point. With a partnership of 31 Pete Dunk and Josh Menzies created a small revival before Penfold caught Josh Menzies and Simpson caught last man Everett.

Peter Billinghay took 5 for 27 and Simpson 4 for 19 as Heath were all out for just 71.

Burgess Hill’s openers , Trowbridge ( 27 no ) and Simpson ( 30 no) were rarely troubled in reply as they reached their target in the 12th over .

A fine win with the prospect of first-placed Bognor visiting Burgess Hill this Saturday.
