Priory and Bexhill in national cup action

The cricketers of Hastings Priory and Bexhill will be in ECB National Club Championship action today (Sunday).

Both clubs are on their travels with Priory heading to Beddington and Bexhill going to Horsham in second round ties.

“I must admit I don’t know a lot about the opposition at all,” said Priory captain Adam Maharaj-Newman. “I assume we’re going to be a fairly young side, but we’ll look to play well, enjoy it as much as we can and learn from the experience.”

Beddington, which is between Croydon and Sutton, play in Division One of the Surrey Championship. Priory ply their trade in the Premier Division of the Sussex League and knocked out Kent Premier Division side Bickley Park away from home in round one.

Sussex Division Two outfit Bexhill will be hoping to repeat their excellent first round win over last season’s Kent Premier Division runners-up Hartley Country Club against a Horsham side which came second in the Sussex Premier Division in 2010.

Bexhill first team manager Hamish Russell said: “We’re looking forward to going up to Horsham. It’s a nice ground to go and play at, and there’s no pressure on us whatsoever. The boys can go out and enjoy themselves.”

Both matches will start at 1pm.
