Priory beaten in top two tussle

HASTINGS Priory suffered a second successive defeat in the Sussex Premier Cricket League when they went down by five wickets away to leaders Preston Nomads.

Priory totalled 235-7 off 57.4 overs thanks to a fine knock from opener Toby Finzel who hit 15 fours and one six in his 117.

The bulk of his runs came in a fifth wicket partnership of 131 with skipper John Morgan (61 off 74 balls). The only other batsman to reach double figures was Adam Maharaj-Newman (25), while Carl Simon claimed 4-86.

In reply, Jeremy Green (65), Hugh Richards (51) and Luke Schildkamp (44) steered Nomads to 236-5 despite Joynal Ahmed’s 3-57.

This result means Nomads have stretched their lead to 18 points over second-placed Priory.
