Priory clinch welcome win

HASTINGS Priory kept their Sussex Premier Cricket League title hopes alive with a maximum points win over the Sussex Development XI.

The defending champions triumphed by four wickets at Horntye Park to close the gap to 19 points on leaders Preston Nomads who have a game in hand on their third-placed rivals. The teams are due to meet on the final day of the season.

The Development XI won the toss and elected to take first knock on Sunday. Callum Jackson (59) top-scored in a total of 134 all out from 50.3 overs as Josh Poysden (5-49 off 20 overs) and Mick Glazier (4-27 off 12.3 overs) held sway with the ball.

In reply, the returning Kirk Wernars hit 45 and Harry Finch added a run-a-ball 39 as Priory finished on 135-6 off 41 overs. George Garton was the most successful visiting bowler with figures of 3-17.

This was Priory’s first win in the league since the defeat of Chichester Priory Park on June 16.
