Priory determined to stay at summit

Priory continued their good start to their title defence with victory away to East Grinstead last weekend which moved them five points above a Horsham side which lost to Preston Nomads.

Vice-captain John Morgan said: “It’s pleasing. As we’ve said before, early season is when, as a club, we’re missing five, six, seven players who will then come back and strengthen both the first team and the second team.

“We can’t be complacent. Anybody can beat anybody and that’s the beauty of this league. There’s not going to be any easy games, but there’s no reason why we can’t mirror what we achieved last year.”

Priory are one of only two sides yet to taste defeat having won all three matches they’ve contested so far (even if the Twenty20 victory over Horsham is listed in the league table as an abandonment).

“I back the players we’ve got and the players we’ve got to come back in to keep us up there,” continued Morgan. “All we can do is give ourselves a chance.

Next up is a visit from fourth-placed Brighton & Hove today (Saturday) when George Campbell will lead the team for the first time since being appointed captain for the 2012 season.
