The top five clubs in Sussex Division Two are separated by just 21 points after four matches and all of them have been beaten at least once. Priory are the last of the five at present.

Gillespie said: “It would appear that way. We definitely thought Three Bridges and Worthing would be in the contest with ourselves and somebody else, and it would appear there could be a couple of somebody elses.”

Priory have won their two home games and lost their two away matches so far.

“I think it’s too early in the season to read too much into anything,” Gillespie continued. “We’ve played some good cricket and we’ve certainly played very well at home.

“We’ve still got to get all the batting firing. There’s been some promising signs, but there’s been some inconsistency and we’ve got to iron that out. Again in the bowling we’ve got to show consistency in depth all the way through.”

After last weekend’s narrow defeat at Pagham, Priory are back at Horntye Park tomorrow (Saturday) for the visit of St James’s Montefiore. Tom Gillespie is likely to be added to an otherwise similar side. Play is due to start at 1pm.
