Priory hoping for winning finish

Hastings Priory will be gunning for victory over their likely successors as Sussex Cricket League champions.

Last season’s winners Priory will round-off their 2012 Premier League campaign tomorrow (Saturday) at home to a Preston Nomads side which needs just six points to regain the title.

Priory captain George Campbell said: “They’ve always played good cricket and they’re always a very, very strong side, but we will certainly try and upset things. The title race deserved to be a little bit closer to be honest.”

While Priory are guaranteed to finish third whatever the outcome, Nomads are defending a 25-point lead over second-placed Horsham having won 12 of their 14 completed fixtures so far.

“Every game we want to try and win, and that will be absolutely no different against Nomads,” continued Campbell. “On the whole it’s been a good season and it’s always nice to finish off with a positive result if you can.”

Kirk Wernars is likely to be with Sussex County Cricket Club for their Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final at home to Hampshire. Priory’s match is due to get under way from 11.30am at Horntye Park.

The club will mark the end of the season with a special Priory Legends versus Priory Club President’s Day Twenty20 match at Horntye Park on Sunday from 2pm.
