Priory into national last 16

Adam Barton took four wickets in Hastings Priory's two-run victory away to East Grinstead

Priory won by two runs away to fellow Sussex Premier League side East Grinstead yesterday (Sunday) in an ECB Royal London Club Championship regional final.

After winning the toss and batting, Priory totalled 184-8 from their 45 overs against a Grinstead outfit which beat them by one wicket at the same ground in the league 24 hours earlier.

Opening batsmen Jake Woolley (10) and Finn Hulbert (19) got starts before Leo Cammish made 22 at number three. Adam Maharaj-Newman led the way with 47 at number four, although numbers five and six contributed just three between them.

Elliot Hooper chipped in with a valuable 29, while Henry Smith followed up his 41 not out in the league game with an unbeaten 17. Craig Fowle was the pick of Grinstead’s bowlers with 3-20 from his nine overs.

Grinstead opener Darryl Rebbetts made a fine 73 in reply, but nobody else got to 25 as Priory were able to pick up wickets at the other end to keep themselves very much in the hunt.

Adam Barton was the most successful bowler with 4-34, including the big wicket of Rebbetts, while Cameron Smith continued his fine form in the national knockout competition with 3-22, including the final wicket with the first ball of the last over.

Having beaten Bickley Park, Tunbridge Wells, Bexhill and now East Grinstead, Priory will entertain Sussex Premier League leaders Roffey for a place in the quarter-finals.
