Priory runners-up in T20 Cup

Hastings Priory were runners-up in the Gray-Nicolls Sussex T20 Cup on Sunday.

As they had in the Sussex Cricket League Premier Division 24 hours earlier, Priory succumbed at the hands of Preston Nomads and, in particular, Joe Gatting.

Sussex professional Gatting was man of the match in the final after scoring 76 with the bat and taking 2-20 with the ball as Nomads triumphed by 59 runs on their own ground.

Gatting’s brother Ollie added 46 to a total of 182-6 batting first. Stuart Faith also took 2-20 and Stephen Rigg claimed 2-11 as Priory were all out for 123 in reply.

The Sussex League champions for the last three years will now represent the county in the area finals at Guildford against the winners from Hampshire, Surrey and Kent.

Nomads beat Division Three (West) side Billingshurst by eight wickets in their semi-final earlier the same day, while Priory overcame Premier Division leaders Horsham by three wickets with Jason Finch 55 not out.
