Priory seeking to build momentum

Priory are hoping to maintain the winning formula following their 10-wicket win at home to Lindfield last weekend.

First team coach Ian Gillespie said: “I think to get up you know you’ve got to get your 350 whatever it may be points so the quicker you get there the better.

“If we can get two or three wins that will build a bit of confidence and build a bit of resilience as well. I think if you’ve won three and then you have a reversal, you can look back to the wins you’ve got.

“Last season we couldn’t win to begin with and it became a real issue as we went through six, seven, eight games even though on occasions we played some very good cricket.

“We couldn’t get over the line and it became a real monkey on our back. I think if we can get three or four wins and get ourselves at the top of the table that builds in itself confidence and to a degree takes off some of the pressure.

“Whatever happens we’re hoping to be at the top end of the league and obviously our mission is to get promoted. If we don’t pick up points early doors then that’s just going to make us have to work hard further down the line.”

Priory will contest their first away game of the season tomorrow (Saturday) against a Three Bridges side which came down with them from the Premier League last year. Although Bridges lost their opening fixture away to Ansty, Gillespie still expects them to be one of Priory’s main rivals for promotion.

“You would’ve thought so,” he continued. “It’s a Premier League set up at Three Bridges and traditionally they’ve been a very strong club.

“The last few years we’ve had interesting games with them. We’ve tended to be right on top of them at home and they’ve been right on top of us when we’ve gone up there.

“After a win we’re looking forward to the game and feeling quite positive about our cricket so hopefully we can get a good result out of that one and start to generate some real momentum.”

Adam Maharaj-Newman is likely to be added to an otherwise fairly similar Priory side to that which beat Lindfield.
