Priory sound title warning

Hastings Priory have sent out a message to anybody hoping to prise the Sussex Cricket League title away from them.

That’s the view of vice-captain John Morgan following the 10-wicket Premier League derby drubbing of Bexhill at Horntye Park Sports Complex last weekend.

Morgan said: “It sends out a message to other sides around the league. That was a competent victory really and it just lets the other teams know Hastings are continuing as we were last year.”

Priory are third in the embryonic table, a point behind second-placed Brighton with a game in hand and 14 adrift of a table-topping Horsham side which they beat in a match played under Twenty20 rules a fortnight ago.

Next up for Priory is a trip to East Grinstead tomorrow (Saturday). Grinstead are six points and two places worse off than Priory at present having won one, lost one and had one abandoned so far.

Although Toby Finzel is on holiday for the next two weekends, Josh Poysden is expected to be back, and Sussex professionals Matt Machan and Wernars will hopefully be available.

Priory will be back in action on Sunday when an under-24 side will contest an ECB National Club Championship third round tie away to Bexley, who lie second in the Kent Premier League.
