Josh Fleming’s side look to have found top gear in their title defence with their third straight win after an opening-day defeat to Preston Nomads.

East Grinstead, batting first after losing the toss, had a telling contribution from Fynn Hudson-Prentice (90) to help them to 135-6 when he was bowled by Dan Smith (1-24), before Darryl Rebbetts (21) and Toby Margetts (26*) helped them to 203-6 where they declared in the 52nd over.

Roffey’s Ben Manenti took figures of 3-55, while Rohit Jagota took 2-25.

In reply, Josh Fleming opened up with 30, before Jagota hit 56, Chris Webb added 19 and Manenti scored 15 to take them to 156-6.

An unbeaten seventh-wicket match-winning stand of 47 from Matt Davies (29) and Smith (30) helped them home with 203-6 in the 52nd over.

Fleming said: “It was a big win. I think East Grinstead will be the best side we play against, probably, although there are some good teams about.

“They got off to a flyer, but the spinners dragged it back really well and we were pretty good in the field as well.

“It was quite tricky as we lost a couple of early wickets and me and Rohit had to really dig in and build a partnership.

“There were a couple more partnerships to get us over the line and Matt Davies and Daniel Smith did really well to see us home.”
