Rye’s 10th win from 13 matches took them to 333 points and kept them 40 clear of second-placed Newick. At the start of the game, only seven Ditchling players took to the field.

With little pressure applied by the bowling attack, Sandun Dias played in his usual style to hit 57 in an opening partnership of 86. Gandhi Tandoori man of the match Dan Seabrook went on to top score with a chanceless 61 not out.

James Hamilton fell immediately after reaching his 50 with the score on 127. Jason Woodcock made 20 and Mark Cook was 12 not out as Rye secured maximum batting points at 212-3 declared after 48 overs.

After tea, both Ditchling openers fell in the first two overs as Craig Pierce and Dias struck. Ditchling skipper Atkinson and Mike Nolan patiently rebuilt as they took the score to 63. However, Nolan fell to a Gary Willis full toss, caught superbly by Jake Bryant at long off.

This was the breakthrough Rye needed, and Harry Smeed and Martin Blincow began to chip away at the batting. Jim Nolan resisted with 22, but the return of Dias to the attack saw him take three wickets. Blincow wrapped up proceedings in a match sponsored by Neame Designs with 4-21 to secure the 30 points.
