Safety in sight for Bexhill

Bexhill opening batsman Tim Hambridge has been battling a hand injury over the past few weeks

Back-to-back wins have moved Bexhill up to sixth in the Sussex Premier League with a 48-point cushion above the two relegation places.

Bexhill first team coach Ian Cox said: “I reckon one more win, but the Three Bridges game (next weekend) is a big game. If we can win one more and not lose the Bridges game, we should be okay.

“We’re on a really good roll as well. We’re playing good cricket, we’ve had two good wins and we’re looking in decent shape. It’s ours to throw away.”

Bexhill have now triumphed in five of their 14 completed league matches and have picked up more victories than all of the four sides below them. In fact, they’ve won four more games than second-bottom Bridges.

The first of their four remaining matches is at home to second-placed Roffey tomorrow (Saturday). Bexhill will be eager to atone for their batting collapse after a promising start to the reverse fixture.

“It’s at home so we’ve got a chance,” added Cox. There are still doubts over the fitness of hand injury victim Tim Hambridge, but Lloyd Waughman should be available. Play is due to start at 12noon.
