Second XI fly Crawley Eagles flag in August Cup - Remfry turns 18 - and passes 100

Ifield v Crawley Eagles

Eagles ended their August campaign with a 26-run loss at Ifield.

The hosted batted first and scored a challenging total of 177-8 0ff 40 overs.

Imran Mehboob once again showed his experience and class with bowling figures of 2-16.

In reply Eagles lost regular wickets good tight bowling from Daniel Groves with 3-28 and Jack Groves with 2-9 helped their team to bowl out the visitors for 152 in 39 overs.

Anjum Zafar, the Eagles captain, said: “Although I am disappointed with the result today I have had a chance to look at some young lads during this small August Cup campaign,

“I am very happy with the progress of players like Danyal Razzak and Umer Moufeed. All in all it was just great to get some competitive games in before the end of the summer.”

Crawley Eagles 2nd v East Grinstead 3rd

Eagles second team claimed top position in their group with a comprehensive four-wicket victory against EG thirds at Cherry Lane.

The visitors batted first and Eagles captain Imran Habeebullahkhan carried on his great form with the ball with figures of 2-7 in eight overs,ably helped by Shannaz 3-14 which helped bowl out EG for 99 in 37 overs.

Somehow it was worked out that to make sure of progress and top spot in the division, Eagles would need to get the target in less than 13 overs – anything more than that it would be a waiting game to see how the other results went.

So the batters went out to score fast getting to their target in 17 overs for the loss of six wickets. As the results came in from other games it was confirmed the team had just claimed top spot by having a higher net run rate.

They will now be involved in the play-offs for group winners this Saturday.

Crawley Eagles CC under-nines were crowned champions of the North and Mid Sussex League after a comprehensive win over Ifield CC.

This win ensured the team were unbeaten all season – a brilliant performance from all the players, backed up by the work of the coaches and parents.

Horley v Warlingham

Ben Remfry celebrated his 18th birthday by scoring his fourth century of the season to help Horley beat Warlingham in the Surrey Championship Challenge Cup.

Captain Charlie Robins elected to bat and Remfry and Regan Derham put on 187.Derham went for 88 but Remfry went on to make 124. Horley closed on a mighty 248 for four.

Robins and Ben Davies opened the bowling and kept tight control.Only a late flush of runs from the last eight overs took Warlingham past 100.

Warlingham v Horley 2nd

A below-par performance with the bat resulted in defeat for the seconds in the Surrey Championship Challenge Cup. Horley were bowled out for only 126.

Andrew Thomas (33) put on 63 for the first wicket with Matt Ware (23). Darren Croft and Alex Rooney’s late runs took the total past 100.

Tight bowling kept the run-rate down but Manveer Sokhi made a crucial and patient 53. Warlingham won by four wickets.

Southwater v Horley Sunday XI

Horley’s Sunday XI won well at Southwater.

Kieran Childs and Alex Field reduced Southwater to 15-6 but they reached 80. Ben Stewart (28) and Evan Grimwood (37) led the reply.

Horley Under-11s

Horley under-11s finished fifth out of 21 teams in the Sussex Junior Festival Shield, beating Balcombe and Felbridge & Sunnyside but losing narrowly to Ifield.

Jack James, Charlie George, Riley Hill, Dylan Chadwick, Nathan Oliver, Alex Koehler, keeper Edward Rhodes, Alex Mutton, Ryan Smith, Charlie Webber, Ollie Kilbourne, Luke Benjamin, Ollie Millard and Artie Hoskins all did well.
