Shivnarine's maiden century not enough for Lindfield

Returning from a fruitful week on the card tables of Las Vegas, Shivnarine plundered the Bognor attack with support from Shane Wilson-Yelverton (36) and Phil Weir (26 not out).

In reply, the home side got off to a good start reaching 154 before their second wicket fell. Lindfield’s opening attack of Wilson-Yelverton (2 for 46) and James Pearce (4 for 59) constantly pegged back the hosts inducing the edge on many occasions, but frustratingly not falling to hand. Max Ashmore (66) and Rob Willway (55) ultimately saw Bognor over the line with 3 balls to spare.

After the game, skipper Shivnarine said, “Today was probably our best performance of the season thus far. We’ll take a lot from the bowling performance moving forward. On a personal note, it was good to get my first hundred for Lindfield, although I can’t move now.”

Sussex Premier Cricket League - 2nd XI Division 1

Lindfield 2nd XI 140 all out v East Grinstead 142 for 4: East Grinstead won by 6 wickets

A blistering 70 for Lindfield skipper Gareth Court (including 15 fours) was the only shining light in a poor batting display from the Swans second string in a gloomy affair on The Common. Playing in deteriorating conditions all afternoon, the hosts struggled against the opening attack of Samuel Jackson (2 for 29) and James Adkin (4 for 32) and then the support of Alex Pearse (3 for 23). Despite decent bowling, many of the Lindfield batsmen will be disappointed in the way they threw away their wickets, relying on tail-ender Huw Jones (12 not out) to set a reasonable target.

After tea, Jones bowled well (2 for 43) to peg the visitors to 45 for 2, but the lack of seamer support ultimately cost the hosts. Matt Heppell (56 not out) was the difference as he saw his side over the line with plenty of overs to spare.

Next week Lindfield 2s travel to Preston Nomads knowing they will need to make significant improvements in their game to compete with one of the best 2nd elevens in the county.

Mid-Sussex Cricket League - 2nd Division

Lindfield 3rd XI 214 for 9 dec v Ardingly 1st XI 157 all out: Lindfield won by 57 runs

Lindfield stalwart Adrian Whear hit his maiden hundred to set up a stunning win for the threes against a strong Ardingly side who topped the league going into the game. Despite the bowling of Rory Fleming (4 for 61) nothing was stopping Whear, who despite playing 1st team cricket for many years, had never reached three figures before. His 112 not out set a very competitive total on the always fruity Hickman’s Lane pitch.

In reply, the visitors couldn’t build on a promising start - Anand Kulkarni (38) and Adam Vander (39) - as the Lindfield bowlers shared wickets consistently. Nigel Cannon (3 for 43) Chris Maynard (2 for 37) and Alex Pinard (2 for 45) kept the batting under control , whilst youngster Charlie Weir took the last wicket to cement a solid victory for the hosts.

After the game skipper Whear said, “My hamstrings hurt..........again.”

Mid-Sussex Cricket League - 4th Division

St. James’s Montefiore 3rd XI 148 for 9 v Lindfield 4th XI 159 for 6: Match drawn

Lindfield 4s batted first on a soggy St. James’s pitch reaching a competitive 159 for 6 thanks to a battling 35 from veteran Malcolm Page and returning hero Phil Tolhurst with a fluent 52.

Despite the average age of the side pushing 60, Lindfield belied their advancing years in taking steady wickets throughout the innings. Notwithstanding 50 from Nigel Cook and 45 from Colin O’Neill, the hosts couldn’t completely break the shackles of the nagging Lindfield attack. Tony Pugh (5 for 31) and Graham Page (4 for 46) put pressure on St. James’s resulting in the home side requiring 8 runs off the last over with just 1 wicket in hand. It proved too much for the tenth wicket pair and they batted out for a thrilling draw.
