Sidley desperate to get going

Sidley will be eager to get their season up and running on home soil tomorrow (Saturday).

John Haffenden’s side will entertain Glynde & Beddingham in Sussex Cricket League Division Two hoping to put some points on the board after consecutive abandonments were followed by a 155-run loss at Pulborough last weekend.

Haffenden said: “It’s a different thing at Sidley. We’re always pretty good at home and the weather’s good so hopefully we can get out and practise this week. A lot more is going to be on our side.”

Glynde - the 2009 National Village Cup winners - only missed out on promotion to the Premier League by three points last season and their first outing of 2012 ended in a draw against St James’s Montefiore last weekend.

“I don’t think Glynde’s bowling attack is as strong as their batting and we can bat down to 10 whatever side we put out,” continued Haffenden, who scooped the Division Three (East) batting award in 2011.

Paul Thompson is due to return and will take over the wicketkeeper’s gloves, but Chris Deeprose is still unavailable and it is hoped that Paul Nice will return from a wrist injury next weekend.

It will be the first Sussex League meeting between the clubs. Glynde joined the league in 2008 when they won Division Three (East) and have remained in Division Two since.

Sidley were relegated from Division Two in 2008 and lined-up in Division Three (East) until winning the title last summer. Play will get under way from 1pm at Gullivers.
