Skipper Ellis leads Saints home against Aldwick in season opener

With a good pre-season win against Crawley behind them, Saints 1st XI travelled to the coast to face Aldwick on Saturday and won the toss and decided to field first.

Aldwick were in immediate trouble with JJ Davies bowling Cooper for 3.

At the other end Danny Nichols took time to find his rhythm and then dispatched Sargent & Bingham in two balls. Wickets continued to fall regularly and only Grant Wilson showing stamina to stay until skipper Alex Ellis brought himself on and bowled him for 35. Danny Nichols returned to pick up 4 for 31 and Aldwick were dismissed for 122.

Alex Ellis finished with 2 for 6 off 6.2 overs and JJ Davies 2 for 30 and Nick Elkins 1 for 12 off 8 overs.

Nick Elkins (23) opened with Ellis and posted 66 partnership to send Saints on their way, Stuart Murray (3) and Scott Lonsdale (17) helped the skipper to 113 for 3 before Sam Kirwan (1 no) watched Ellis pass the Aldwick score with a fine captain’s knock of 69 not out and Saints 124 for 3 in just 18.3 overs. A good start to the season with 30 points.

All other Saints teams were cancelled due to the weather.
