SLIDESHOW: New overseas player Camagu helps Slinfold get going at rivals Wisborough Green

New overseas player Skihokele Camagu scored a measured 67 not out as the visitors battled to 177-7 on a slow wicket, before Camagu capped a fine debut with 3-23 as the hosts were out for 115.

Slinfold captain Steve Haines said: “It’s only our second full game after defeat to Billingshurst and last week’s match rained off but it was good to get a win under our belts. We were looking at 150 and they bowled very tight lines so to get 177 was a very good score.”

Slinfold contributions with the bat came from Andy Parsons (24), Guy Thorne (26) and Jonathan Hughes (37), but tying the innings together was South African Camagu, who then smashed five sixes in the final overs to swell the visitors’ score. “We were really impressed with him, he timed his knock brilliantly,” Haines said. For Wisborough Green Ben Thatcher bowled 21 extremely tight overs which included seven straight maidens to finish with figures of 3-15.

In reply Tim Dodd opened with 30, but when he was bowled by Phil Awcock and key man Alex Edwards was out for two Green were in trouble. Despite resistance from Napper (30) and Jonny Farmer (31), they fell to a 62-run defeat.

Wisborough Green captain Byron Napper said: “We bowled and fielded really well as Slinfold’s 177 was well within our grasp to get. We started off batting positively, Tim Dodd put away a few short balls but Tim Monday was first to get out and it escalated from there.

“We have a strong batting line up but we’re playing within ourselves, it’s something we’re working hard to improve.”
