Lashings All-Stars will be making their first ever visit to the Walcott Ground in Telham to take on Park in a T20 match, which is due to start at 3pm.

Lashings spokesman James Honey-Green said: “We’re bringing down a very strong squad, with Owais Shah coming in as a last minute replacement to lead the batting line-up.

“Tino Best will spearhead our bowling attack and he is looking exceptionally quick. He plays every game like it’s a World Cup final and when we were in Bexhill a few years ago he ended up having an altercation with a supporter.

“For Sussex supporters, Yasir Arafat will be playing and our manager is David Smith, who scored a century in the 1993 NatWest Trophy final and still ended up on the losing side.”

The Lashings squad is made up of current or former international cricketers from six different countries.

It includes half-a-dozen past England players in Shah, Devon Malcolm, Alex Tudor, Philip DeFreitas, John Emburey and Mark Ealham.

Also in are ex-New Zealand bowler Iain O’Brien, West Indian paceman Tino Best, Pakistani all-rounder Yasir Arafat, Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer and Ireland ace Niall O’Brien.

O’Brien - who represented Ireland at the World Cup earlier this year - will be making his Lashings debut, while Shah has come in as a late replacement for Grant Elliott.

Elliott - who played for New Zealand in the recent one day international series against England - was due to make his Lashings debut, but visa issues mean he won’t now be playing, although Lashings say he may still attend.

Park’s 17-man squad will be captained by Paul Brookes and will combine experienced players, including the return of Victor Walcott and Paul Lindfield, with young talent.

Before the match, some 300 people will be entertained at the VIP luncheon with Lashings players.

There will also be a junior tournament involving local clubs from 9.30am-1pm, followed by presentations, plus softball and hardball training on the outfield.

Brookes said: “(Park chairman) Gordon Pells and the committee want to make the day as good as they can for the club and the surrounding area. We’re hoping people will come and see the game, and see the club as well.

“It’s certainly going to be a good day no matter what the outcome of the cricket is.”
